sloth

so i'd been feeling a bit sloth like.
Our lives are so busy yet at the same time I have the power to slow them down, so the past few days i did. We decided to just do two playdates this week. One with auntie cheryl and of course tommorow the Verge, where Cole get's to see all his buddies. And you know it felt pretty good. I'm definatley starting to see parts of Cole's personality coming out, and am noticing the parts that are jer and the parts that are me! It's pretty neat. He most definatley is an outdoorsy guy and loves to be outside a LOT! So our locale is coming in very handy for the usual daytime dyke strolls, and sandpit action. And the evenings are full of kite flying and park playing, and watching the kids play softball in the field next door. But, he is also like his mom and dad in that as much as he loves being out and about, he always looks forward to coming home. He goes straight for his playroom, and get's busy with his latest favorite toy, the ball of yarn! That or his toy cars. Or he goes straight for his puzzles, if he know's we are near by to help. Or his other favorite activity is to play "flight attendant" where he brings us invisible tea and coffe, cookies and pizza ( we really must work on the limited menu!) This age is pretty darn fun I must say, and I feel so blessed to have the time to share with him one on one. We are really coming into our own as a mom and son duo. We have yet to truly experience the tantrum thing ( don't worry I know the second I get all high and mighty ....) but I see him really listening to me. As long as I stay calm and collected, and just repeat my "no" over and over, but always giving him options, he calms down reasonably quickly and always say's he's sorry and comes for a hug and cuddle. And then we talk about what happened, how he felt and how it's going to be. I know it won't always be this easy (and i still don't think easy is the right word to use) but I feel like by just respecting each other our relashionship has gotten so much more trusting and much stronger.

Okay, stepping off my soap box
but....
As much as I love all your emails and comments and how lovley they make me feel, I write this blog mostly because I don't keep a written journal, and I havn't ever kept a baby book for Cole, so as we go through our daily day to day, this is were i document all the "little, big things" that I know I already love to look back and read.
so,

I've been feeling kinda sloth like latley. So I decided it was time to cut the telly and get crafty. And I feel soooooo much better! It's like hearing all those yogi's saying I don't feel tired after a workout I feel even more energized! Well that's how I feel after turning off the telly and getting me some crafts made!
So on the list for today -
we modge podged some mini clip boards ( for what i do not know yet)
we made 3 cereal boxes into magazine holders then modge podged them to keep in cole's craft cupboard and hold all his papers and paints and magazined etc.
I put together a kind off collage of his latest painting art work - to then be sent to the laminator machine to turn into placemats and crafting mats (as to save my beautiful dinning table that is getting more stickier, and bunged up with each passing day!
Then I made a lovley homemade card for Adele and Scott and Dawson's newest arrival! Graydon Bruce! Who I am very excited to meet tonight after my rehearsal.
Then I cut out my fabric to sew up a crayon holder thing for Cole to carry all his crayons in and bring to the park or whatever so he can start documenting life as he sees it!
So I feel much better. I think if I can just get onto one thing in the morning the day quickly fills up with all the inspiring ideas I get as it goes along!
Let's see how long that lasts!

We headed into the states and made our way to Whidbey Island for a funfilled weeekend with lot's of other families with young kiddoes! We went canoeing, rowboating, swimming, went on bug walks, had campfires and sang songs, spent oodles of hours in the playground, and had a wonderful weekend!

Thrifty Thursday

We are amidst the rush of packing for the first little getaway with the three of us in... well... a very long time. But because I am such a dedicated blogger (snickers and huffaws may ensue now) I must be true to my weekly feature of thrifty thursday!
So this week my friends we scored BIG time. On monday my lovley and oh so very much heavily pregnant and due like 4 days ago friend had me and cole over to play with her child (out of utero) and her dear mom showed us the basics of knitting. And I love it! So for those of you counting at home, I am now sewing and knitting in the same week! (not superbly mind you) but nevertheless becoming a domesticated woman and loving it. So because I have never truly tried knitting before, except when I was like 7 and my oma tried to show me, but I was much too cool for it at the time and wouldn't really focus, I have absolutley no equipment. And the best part of taking up a new hobby is the equipment people! So strolling into the thrift shop this week with a sleeping baby (YAY! Buying me like an extra 30 whole minutes of browsing) I found no less than, 2 sets of what look like to me, totally awesome knitting needles in two sizes that are made in england! 50 cents for each pair. 3 balls of gorgeous yarn again 50 cents. another embroidery loopy thing for crafting with cole on for free peeps! a little golden book about colours for Cole 25cents, the davinci code for my friend Karen who's been wanting to read it but because that darn movie angels and deamons is out the lineup at the library is atrocious also 50cents. 20 awesomely wonderful plastic hangars 2 bucks, a cute little bucket and shovel set for the boy. and an absolutley stellar Duvet cover. It is like strips of bright beautiful and oh so bold colours. And Jer and I know we want another kiddo, and since we are adament about our children sharing a room they are going to be in bunks, so my bright idea is cut the king in half and then I have matching BEAUTIFUL duvet covers for the kiddies!for only 4 bucks! Love it.
Okay I am off to read a bit more of my book and then to sleep, as we are up early to get through the border lineup! Family Camp weekend here we come WOOO HOOO!
Happy Victoria Day to you all!

A Very Blissful Mothers Day weekend....

I had probably one of the most beautifully spent weekends this weekend! It was Lovely! It started Friday night, Lolo picked up Cole. I went out with the choir ladies, Jer went to the Star Trek opening at Silver City. Saturday morning I slept in, and awoke to fresh coffee ready for me. We ventured into Steveston Jer and I for flowers for our mothers and a few other errands. We then ventured to the oh so posh area of the west end to pick up a steal of a deal on bike racks for our car (a craiglist deal) then on to the walmart before heading to Jer's folks house for a lovley early dinner late lunch salmon barbie and adoboe. We ate in the glorious sunshine in the backyard just relaxing while cole watered each and every plant in the yard, as well as himself. We then washed and vacumned up our car (it was EXTREMLEY dirty) Cole got pushed around on the free bike find! Pictures coming! And then we watched a bit of the game before heading home for bedtime for the boy. Jer and I stayed up late watching something I can't remember, and then I got to sleep in again, and awake to pancakes and waffles and sausages! I got spoiled rotten with some lovley books I wanted, and a beautiful Bike Basket that clips on to my bike and can be taken off to use as a grocery basket! We thought we'd try it out, so we took a ride down the dyke into town and I relaxed on a blanket in the park with a good book while Cole and Jer played ( with all the millions of other father and kiddie's!) Then friends dropped by with some fresh bread and gifts, so we headed out to Gary point for a Pajo's fish and chips lunch while the boys explored the beach. Then we biked home, and loaded up to head to grandma's for the afternoon where I took my "lesson 2" in sewing! An finished my first ever pair of jammie pants! This was part of a thrify thursday post, I picked up some super cute vintage sheets at the thrift shop and decided I would make jammies outta them. A great way to learn to sew and not spend millions on costly fabric that i might make a boo boo on!
Then we had a lovley dinner with the grandparents, and relaxed in the front room while Cole played flight attendant with us, bringing us tea and coffee and baking up cookies in his little airplane kitchen! That boy has an imagination! Then we head home for bedtime, and Jer and I caught up with some Miami Vice episodes, and crashed. The perfect ending to a perfect weekend. Thank you my sweet boys!

a day and a bit late...

I know I know, I totally start Thrifty Thursday do one post and then skip two Thursday's in a row! But aha! I am not. This week found us some good finds. First up I found a very awesome something for Cole which I do not want to post until I can show pics, so that will have to wait until monday because he get's to see it tonight at lolo and lola's and we will see it tommorow when we pick him up!
So other than that something for Cole which I will not tell you about right now, this week found us, a gorgeous cream and sugar pottery set! See! I love it! only 2 bucks for the set! And we also found some wonderful creative thingamabobs for creating. I found two embroidery loops, the oh so lovley made in england embroidery thread in a multitude of colours, a bag o buttons (which is Cole's new favorite thing EVER) and some elastic for the sewing project I hope to complete this weekend at grandmas. More on that next week ( yes amy is finally learning to sew!)
Anyways I have a quiet household for about 2 hours, and a very messy household so I am putting wilson and philips on and getting busy with broom. Have a wonderful weekend and to all you mothers, and daughters, and mothers to be I wish you a beautiful mothers day!
